Custom Work...How to Prepare

What to wear and the setting...

There are no hard and fast rules; however, avoid trendy or garish colors and loud prints. Neutral tones such as black, brown, white, cream, burgundy, shades of blue and beige will not be tiring to the eye. Also, generally choosing clothes with a classic style will insure that your portrait will not later look dated.

Consider your lifestyle and where the portrait will hang in making the choice of a formal or informal look. Though outdoor portraits are normally considered less formal, there are some that are actually quite formal. Conversely, an indoor portrait could be quite casual. It's involves a combination of factors, including the clothing, setting, and character of the subject.

It is important that you wear the correct colors, style, and fabrics as they affect your professional photos. We always work with you to achieve the look you want.

For best results...

OUTDOOR: Casual and relaxed clothes work best outdoors. Comfortable clothes for kids works best. We can shoot formal shots in more formal attire if desired. We even shoot some portraits in full costumes. But, in general, for outdoor portraits, please wear pants as they don't restrict the movement of your legs. Families often decide to wear the same color on top for a family portrait. We will be happy to work with you on the color selection.

INDOOR: Same guidelines apply regarding color, and fabric. We will work with you to determine the type look you want.

MALES: A clean shave is best before your session with us. Clothes should be cleaned and pressed. Avoid busy prints in both shirts and ties.

FEMALES: Avoid excessive makeup blue eye shadow if possible. Mascara, lip color, and cheek color should be applied before your session with us. Your hair should be as you normally wear it, or changed for a different look if desired. Too tight clothing is a big problem!

MATERNITY: Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothing. Elastic waist, solid color, loose fitting pants or long skirt are perfect. Please bring your significant other's solid color, long sleeve, button down the front shirt as well.

BABIES: Please bring baby in a solid white "onesie", no prints or colors. Please feel free to bring an outfit change consisting of your favorite outfit for your baby. It is also a good idea to bring baby's favorite stuffed toy to the photo shoot. Bring a solid color black, long sleeve t-neck or t-shirt for the adult(s) in the photo. You may also bring light pastel or white t-necks or long sleeve tees as well.

CHILDREN: Please bring or wear comfortable clothes; unless you are looking for a formal or period/costume type photo. Please see above for colors. Avoid white socks, shoes and tights unless at the beach. Make sure children are rested and bring a favorite teddy bear or something of importance to them.

Some final suggestions...

Please get a good night's sleep the night before your session. Wear clothes that fit and avoid wrinkles. We have the capability of digitally correcting skin problems, glass glare, and removing braces if necessary. Quotes for digital corrections can be provided upon request.
